SSU, XI Star sail into CC Meet pre-quarters

Dec 7: SSU, Singjamei today became the first team to enter the pre quarter final of the ongoing 54th edition of the Churachand Memorial Football Tournament, 2010 being played at the Mapal Kangjeibung.

In a hard fought match today, SSU, Singjamei defeated IBSA, Yumnam Leikai, who had just qualified for the meet from the Imphal West 1st Division Championship, by a solitary goal.

The important goal for SSU was scored by L Gogocha in the 59th minute of play from a long throw from T Raju. The referee awarded a yellow card to Kh Sushilkumar of SSU for time wasting.

Meanwhile the second match of the day turned out to be more interesting, with XI Star reaching the pre quarter final with a 3-2 defeat of NLYC, Churachandpur.

The Churachandpur team led twice during the match with Thaggouliam opening the score-board for NLYC in the 15th minute from a beautiful Lianmuansang free kick, which was soon leveled by Ch Risk in the 20th minute. Lianmuansang of NLYC who provided the beautiful free kick for Thaggouliam’s previous goal, scored in the 54th minute and lead by 2-1. However Ch Risk found his opponents net twice in the second half of the match to make his score a hattrick and end the match with a 3-2 defeat of NLYC.

Sagolband United (SU) enter second round 54th CC Meet

Dec 6 : Sagolband United (SU) have stormed into the second round of the 54th Sir Churachand Singh KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament 2010.

In knock-out preliminary stage of the prestigious tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung today, SU overcame a strong challenge from DM Rao Sekmai.

After a barren first half, both the teams raised their tempo in the second half, it was in the 85th minute that Joseph of SU drew first blood only to be equalised by Huponang Chawang in the 90+3 minute. SU eventually won 5-3 via tie-breaker.

In the second match, UBSA Mantak edged AIFA Irengband 2-1 to seal its berth in the second round.
